We receive hundreds of calls
every day so you may have trouble getting through at certain times,
particularly during the morning. The best time to ring has been found to
be mid-afternoon. If the phone is engaged please keep trying. Once you get through and choose an option, you
will be answered as soon as someone is available to speak to you.
For results and routine inquiries please
call between 2pm and 3pm when the phones are quieter.
If you are ringing to speak
to a doctor, please remember that you may have to wait some time as they may be dealing with another
patient. If the doctor is too busy to take your call, they will phone you back.
Surgery Closed:
With effect from the 1st
October 2004, NHS Wiltshire (formerly the Primary Care Trust) has been responsible for commissioning Out
of Hours services.
Outside
normal opening hours, our 01249-812141 telephone
number will be automatically transferred to them.
Registering as a
Northlands Patient:
Please tell one of our receptionists if you wish to register as a patient.
You will need to complete a form called a GMS1 in order to register.
You will also be required to fill in a Northlands
New Patient Questionnaire and be asked which of our
doctors, currently taking on new patients, you would prefer to be seen by.
The reception
staff are there to help you if you have any queries.
The GMS1, or Family Doctor Services Registration Form,
and the New Patient Questionnaire are either available from the receptionists or
you can download copies, as PDFs, from
the links below. You may also download a PDF of the guidelines for
filling out the GMS1 form. You would then bring the forms, already completed,
in to reception.
If you need the free Adobe PDF reader, please
follow the relevant link below to download it.
All patients have the right to see the
practitioner of their choice. However
it is better to see the same doctor every time, especially for ongoing
problems. In this way you can
get to know your doctor, and your doctor will become familiar with your
particular illness and circumstances.
Even an unrelated or minor illness can be important in relation to
past illnesses or medication.
Home Visit
Options:
If you are too ill to attend surgery and need a doctor to
visit you at home, please let us know as soon as you can.
No visit requests are accepted without prior
discussion with the doctor.
GP visit recommended for:-
- The terminally ill; or
- The truly housebound patient for whom travel to the surgery
would cause deterioration in their medical condition.
GP visit may be useful for:-
- Other patients whose illness has been discussed with the
doctor and is considered serious enough to warrant a visit.
GP visit is not useful for:-
- Heart attacks - severe crushing chest pain. Dial 999 and ask for an ambulance; or
- Patients with common
symptoms of childhood such as fever, cough, cold, earache, headache,
diarrhoea, vomiting and most cases of abdominal pain. (These patients
are usually well enough to travel to the surgery. It is not harmful to
take a child with fever outside).
An infectious child can be taken to a side room away from the
other patients in the waiting room; or
- Adults with common problems such as cough, sore throat,
influenza, general malaise, back pain and abdominal pain as these are all problems that
would not normally prevent someone from being transported to the surgery. (Transport
arrangements are the responsibility of the patients or their carers).
Walk-in Centres:

services including health information, advice and treatment for a range of minor illnesses
(coughs, cold, infections) and minor injuries (strains, sprains, cuts).
They are open from early morning to late evening, seven days

Experienced NHS nurses run the centres, and you dont
